Peter Pappas
Author

Peter has always enjoyed writing. As a teenager, he played guitar in a band and filled stacks of notebooks with song lyrics, poems and other miscellaneous meanderings of the mind. Later, a college professor remarked that he had a future as a writer and that indeed proved true, although not in a literary sense. Peter became an advertising copywriter, producing TV, radio and print work and gaining some notoriety in his chosen profession.

He composed the first draft of Stu the Rabbit for his daughter, Michelle, who was then around five years old. The story is loosely based on a real pet rabbit who, like Stu, enjoyed the run of the household. He came and went whenever he chose, messed on the rug, and returned home every morning after all-night romps over hill and dale. In short, he was a wild one (if there's a bunny heaven, he's probably not in it).

Today, Peter lives in Marblehead, Massachusetts and still makes a living as a copywriter. You can view some of his work at www.8beacon.com.

Marcia Hermann
Illustrator

Ironically, nature and animals are not some of Marcia's favorite things. So to illustrate a book about a rabbit that takes place almost exclusively outdoors was quite a stretch for her. Having a great story, silly characters and patient models certainly made it a lot easier.

Marcia grew up in Speedway, Indiana, came to Boston after college and has lived on the North Shore of Massachusetts ever since. She majored in painting at Montserrat College of Art in Beverly and has enjoyed a successful painting career in the New England area for the past 25 years. For more information on Marcia, check out her website at www.marciahermann.com.

Velvet
Model

As this book took many years to complete, Julia and Liza Anderson, who posed for all the characters (even Mr. Hopfiddle!) are now quite grown-up teenagers. Sadly, Velvet, who posed as Stu, did not live to see the book published - he passed away this past summer. But here's a photo of him doing one of his favorite things - munching on a lettuce leaf that's almost as big as he is.
